The Western Pennsylvania Council of the League of Ukrainian Catholics of America held the 71st Annual Convention of the LUC on October 9,10,11, 2009 in Green Tree, a suburb of Pittsburgh, PA.
The Convention theme was “CHIRIST LIVES IN ME” from Saint Paul’s Letter to the Galatians 2:20. His Grace Most Reverend Nicholas Samra (see biography), retired Auxiliary Bishop of the Melkite Byzantine Catholic Church in America, led two sessions with dynamic talks on “Stewardship” and “Leadership” that reflected our theme.
The convention was a huge success starting with an entertaining dinner on Friday evening. Saturday started with a Liturgy foolwed by a religious production by the children of St George . Talks by His Grace Most Reverend Nicholas Samra, Sister Ann Laszok, OSBM, Stephen P. Haluszczak filled the afternoon prgram. Saturday Evening at the Convention Banquet, there was a performance by Poltava Ukrainian Dance Company and the Keynote by Monsignor George Appleyard on the "Priesthood" followed by dancing to The Continental Dukes Band.
On Sunday the Conventon closed with a Divine Liturgy at Saint John the Baptist Ukrainian Catholic Church, installation of the officers and a tour of Ridna Shkola Cultural Museum & History of Saint John Church
